OX Med Tech, Inc. Creates Innovative Safety Scalpel Technology
OX Med Tech, Inc. (www.ox-medtech.com), an affiliate of Globe Medical Tech, Inc. (www.globemedtech.com), announced today that they have begun production of their innovative and fully OSHA compliant Auto-Retractable Safety Scalpel.
HOUSTON, TX, October 13, 2010 /Texas PR News/ -- Designed with the healthcare worker in mind, the OX Auto-Retractable Safety Scalpel is a new patented safety scalpel that comes with spring-operated blade retraction, permanent lock function, and a weighted handle. It is the first and only safety scalpel to meet all OSHA medical safety protocols and is intended to replace previous generations of safety scalpels which offer little real protection from sharps injury.
"This is the first real change in the last 30 years for scalpels," said president and CEO Andy Hu, "It was a challenge but we were able to put all of the features that surgeons wanted into a single scalpel that is definitively the safest on the market, and more competitively priced. Our design is weighted to provide a comfortable hand feel that better resembles a traditional scalpel steel handle, and its texturing provides great grip in the most challenging situations. We spring loaded the blade to assist the user in retraction but really took our design above and beyond market offerings by allowing that retraction to be easily controlled by the user and by adding a critical catch to prevent surgeons from unintentionally putting the scalpel into permanent lock. This is a crucial feature as safety scalpels on the market that offer permanent lock or disposal functions, as per OSHA safety guideline requirements, are often accidentally activated by the surgeon during a procedure, whereby disabling a critical surgical instrument and causing additional complications."
