Mark Harmon Saddles up in Cowboys & Indians Magazine

NCIS star Mark Harmon talks about his love of the West and his ranchland in the mountains of Montana.

DALLAS, TX, September 03, 2011 /Texas PR News/ -- When he's not solving crimes and slapping heads as special agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on TV's top-rated NCIS, Mark Harmon often can be found in the ranchlands and mountains of Montana. In the October issue of Cowboys & Indians, The Premier Magazine of the West, America's most popular television star talks with writer Wendy Wilkinson about his avid enthusiasm for the Western lifestyle, and how he, wife Pam Dawber and their two sons literally head for the hills every spring to recharge while riding and herding cattle in Big Sky Country.

"That's where I get my rest," Harmon says, noting that he and his family enjoy their annual pilgrimage as a bonding experience. "It's in a part of Montana that hasn't been messed with much, and we get to ride through beautiful nature, seeing bears and bobcats. Our boys have had a summer experience that's been much different than their friends."

Elsewhere in the October issue of Cowboys & Indians, two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers opens up to writer Dan Gleason about the pain and fear he has endured - and overcome - to achieve eight second of glory while riding angry bulls. What has kept him going through all the aches? "Winning," Shivers bluntly admits. "And doing something not everyone else in the world has a mind to do." Even after years as a professional competitor, he gets a big rush whenever the gate flies open and the bull starts bucking. Every time the action begins, Shivers says, "It's just you against him for that brass ring."

Three iconic Western stars shine brightly in the pages of Cowboys & Indians this month. C&I contributor David Hofstede pays eloquent tribute to the late James Arness, who rode tall as TV's Matt Dillon for more than two decades on Gunsmoke, and interviews Hugh O'Brian, the veteran actor still fondly remembered by fans for his lead role in The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. And if you're a dedicated fan of The Duke, take note: Mark Suez previews the impressive array of memorabilia - including scripts, costumes, awards, furnishings, and letters from dignitaries - that will be available for purchase Oct. 3-6 at the John Wayne Signature Auction in Los Angeles.

But wait, there's more: Cowboy poet Red Steagall chats with cowboy singer Don Edwards, Doug Gray talks about his continuing career with the enduringly popular Marshall Tucker Band, and the dedicated C&I team of Western fashion mavens offer a seasonal guide to the finest in attire and accessories.
